When Awareness Matters Most: A Customer Story
At Hotwire, we hear countless stories about the ways our connected home technology improves our customers’ everyday lives. Sometimes though, that visibility becomes something much more important.
Recently, members of the Hotwire team, including our Chief Customer Success Officer, Chuck Stauffer, visited a customer in Palm Bay to hear firsthand about an unexpected experience that reinforced how valuable real-time home awareness can be.
Early one morning, the customer received a motion alert from her home's security camera. Expecting to see something routine, she opened the live camera feed. Instead, she discovered an unexpected visitor outside her front door: a 7-foot, 6-inch alligator.
The alert gave her the information she needed to react immediately. She made sure her family was aware and stayed inside, kept her dog safely indoors instead of letting her out for her usual early-morning walk, and contacted the appropriate authorities. While waiting for help to arrive, she continued monitoring the alligator through her security cameras.
Looking back, she believes the real-time notification made all the difference. “It was definitely helpful to get the heads up. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have known,” she said. “We could have opened the garage to let the dog out or opened the front door, and we wouldn’t have known if we didn’t have that notification."
While an alligator at the front door is certainly unusual, the lesson is one every homeowner can relate to: you can't respond to what you don't know.
